So as to guarantee solidity, lightness and flexibility, this made-in-Italy canvas brings together two natural materials: cotton warp (63%) and flaw weft (37%). L/Uniform decided to go for a plain canvas weave, regarding the way the threads are brought together, in the most stable and resistant way possible, so that it has neither a front nor back. This canvas has been made exclusively for L/Uniform. After having been woven, the canvas is washed then shaved – so as to obtain a virtually smooth surface. An initial in-depth treatment then dives it into a bath of fluorinated resin, giving it anti-staining, impermeable and water-repellent properties. The canvas is afterwards coated on both sides, to ease its upkeep, while keeping its matt look. Without any dye, the beige woven canvas thus keeps its natural, genuine colour.
COLOURED FABRIC – 100% COTTON
For this 100% cotton fabric made in France, L/Uniform has chosen a plain weave: this is the weave, i.e. the way in which the threads intertwine, the most stable and resistant and which has neither back nor front. This fabric is woven exclusively for L/Uniform. After weaving, the fabric is washed and shaved - in order to obtain an almost smooth surface - and then dyed red, sunshine yellow, navy blue and black through and through, and then immersed in a bath of fluorinated resin, giving it stain-resistant, waterproof and water-repellent properties. The fabric is then coated on the reverse side only, to preserve its original aspect while facilitating its maintenance and its resistance in time. The treatment of the yellow fabric is the same as that of the linen and cotton woven fabric. The treatment of the yellow canvas is the same as for the linen and cotton woven canvas. In order to protect this light colour as well as possible, L/UNIFORM has chosen to apply a coating on both the front and the back, which guarantees the anti-stain and waterproof properties and allows easy cleaning both inside and outside.
Khaki canvas – 100% cotton
Still used today by the army thanks to its countless qualities, this 100% made-in-France cotton canvas is produced using carded fibres which have not been treated chemically. Selected for their solidity, these fibres are then made into a plain weave, which is extremely dense. The result is a fabric that stands up to warping and ripping. This density of the canvas explains the complexity of deep-down dyeing: the way the canvas has been made means that dyes do not easily penetrate it, so that over time or from rubbing white threads can emerge. This for us is a guarantee of authenticity. Among a good hundred shades of khaki, L/UNIFORM chose US 1945, which was launched in 1945 to make military tarpaulins and tents. While the army coated this bare canvas with a treatment based on paraffin so as to make it impermeable and rigid, L/UNIFORM has used some specific treatments, conceived for its bags and luggage.

Canvas & Leather
This canvas is made of linen and cotton, or just cotton depending on the shade. It is light, supple and resistant, while being also washable, water-repellent and anti-staining thanks to treatments that respect the environment. The leather is full-grain calf skin, which has been dye-injected to guarantee the uniformity of its colour, then “water-drop” treated to increase its impermeability.
100% Handmade
The entirety of our range has been devised in Carcassonne, in the production site’s workshops, by highly qualified craftspeople. Trained by L/Uniform, they mean that demanding practices and knowhows can live on. The articles are then made in our own workshops, in Europe: a rigorous and perfectly coordinated production site means being able to check and master the production of series as well as special orders, within realistic and controllable deadlines. The final verification of our articles is undertaken in Carcassonne.
A Taste for Detail
Putting together a bag, using a braid, assembling piping, placing a monogram: each of these steps makes for a series of precise gestures, and this precision is vital. Rigorous quality control will then check out each article, according to a set of precise and demanding specifications.
